Forgotten People's Car: 4 1960 Lloyd Alexanders for $1000

The German automobile history is extremely long and complicated. Over the years, many brands have come and gone, with only a select few surviving the test of time. Brands such as Mercedes and Volkswagen are still around making a variety of cars from semi trucks to crossover utility vehicles.

Lloyd, on the other hand, is a brand forgotten by many. Originally founded in 1908 and subsequently going under in 1963, the company has produced a number of different models, some of which made their way over to the United States.

One of such vehicles was the Lloyd Alexander. The Alexander was a small family car available in both sedan and station wagon format. They were made from 1955 to 1961 and offered in a number of different trim levels, such as the sporty Alexander TS. All Lloyd Alexanders came equipped with a 600cc two-cylinder motor and suicide doors.
Pictured here are four 1960 Lloyd Alexanders currently for sale here in Morgan Hill, California for $1000. Yes, you read that correctly—four for only $1000. That's essentially $250 each. Not bad.

Three of the examples shown are TS versions, coming equipped with a 4-speed transmission (as opposed to the standard 3 speed), and numerous other upgrades to enhance performance and handling. The other example is a station wagon.
All of them are in project condition, with lots of patina and other signs of weathering. The condition of the undercarriage is unknown, as is whether or not the cars are complete. But for $1000, can you really go wrong?
The seller notes that the cars have been sitting for 10 years (likely more judging from their condition) and that none of the vehicles have any papers. Three of them do appear to have license plates, including one personalized plate, so it is likely you could register them somehow.

For only $1000, you could have the largest collection of Lloyd Alexanders in your town. Restore one, hot rod one, use the other two for parts. The possibilities are endless. This is a deal you can't pass up.
